Attributing decadal climate variability in coastal sea-level trends

چکیده

Abstract. Decadal sea-level variability masks longer-term changes due to natural and anthropogenic drivers in short-duration records increases uncertainty trend acceleration estimates. When making regional coastal management adaptation decisions, it is important understand the of these account for periods reduced or enhanced change. The variance decadal trends about global mean quantified mapped around coastlines Atlantic, Pacific, Indian oceans from historical CMIP6 runs a high-resolution ocean model forced by reanalysis data. We reconstruct coastal, via linear relationships with climate mode oceanographic indices. Using this approach, more than one-third can be explained indices at 24.6 % 73.1 grid cells located within 25 km coast oceans. At 10.9 world's coastline, explains over two-thirds trend. By investigating steric, manometric, gravitational components independently, apparent that much dominated manometric signal, consequence open-ocean steric signal propagating onto continental shelf. Additionally, gravitational, rotational, solid-Earth deformation (GRD) should not ignored total. There are locations such as Persian Gulf African west where historically small susceptible future hydrology and/or ice mass drive intensified GRD change above mean. magnitude explainable modes study indicates an projections short- mid-term

Decadal Trends in Sea Level Patterns: 1993-2004

Estimates of regional patterns of global sea level change are obtained from a 1◦ horizontal resolution general circulation model constrained by least-squares to about one hundred million ocean observations and many more meteorological estimates during the period 1993-2004. The data include not only altimetric variability, but most of the modern hydrography, Argo float profiles, sea surface temp...

Frontiers in Decadal Climate Variability

A number of studies indicate an apparent slowdown in the overall rise in global average surface temperature between roughly 1998 and 2014. Most models did not predict such a slowdown—a fact that stimulated a lot of new research on variability of Earth’s climate system. At a September 2015 workshop, leading scientists gathered to discuss current understanding of climate variability on decadal ti...

North Pacific Decadal Climate Variability since 1661

Climate in the North Pacific and North American sectors has experienced interdecadal shifts during the twentieth century. A network of recently developed tree-ring chronologies for Southern and Baja California extends the instrumental record and reveals decadal-scale variability back to 1661. The Pacific decadal oscillation (PDO) is closely matched by the dominant mode of tree-ring variability ...

Tropospheric ozone trends at Mauna Loa Observatory tied to decadal climate variability

The GFDL AM3 model is the atmospheric component of a global coupled atmosphere-ocean-land-sea ice model (CM3) [Donner et al., 2011; Griffies et al., 2011; John et al., 2012]. The unique feature of interactive stratosphere-troposphere chemistry and dynamics [Naik et al., 2013; Austin et al., 2013] distinguishes the GFDL AM3 model from most current generation global and regional tropospheric chem...

Climate regime shifts and multi-decadal variability of the Adriatic Sea pelagic ecosystem

In recent highly variable climate, a combined effect of a large-scale northern hemisphere climate and regional-scale Adriatic hydroclimate changes significantly reflected in the Adriatic Sea ecosystem. To clarify this statement we set up in connection two inter-annual systems: the airsea interconnected system and pelagic ecosystems for the period 1961 to 2010. Within this period, significant ch...
